IMG_20140604_154706The novelty of the Sony QX10 will definitely be the first thing you notice.  (see my photo above of me taking a photo of the photo I’m taking to like infinity) While you can attach it to many cell phones to allow you to use it much like a standard camera (*it didn’t fit on my Note 2).  The best part is the zoom.  My phone has a pretty decent camera.  I’m often happy with the photos I get from it. However I try to never use the zoom on my phone.  It ruins the photo quality completely.  But with the QX10 you get great optical zoom.  If you’re not familiar with zoom there are two types…optical and digital.  Your phone has digital zoom (most likely I think there are now a model or two with optical).  Digital zoom really is the same thing as taking the photo from far away and cropping it. The bigger you make the photo the few pixels it has and the lower the quality.  With optical zoom the lens is actually taking a full quality photo.

In addition to the zoom and nice quality lens, the ability to use a lens separate from your “viewfinder” (your phone)  can make for lots of fun too.  And if you’re not a selfie master you can use the QX10 to take some great selfies without using a mirror.  (Yup I totally do that. Not taking a photo IN the mirror but use the mirror to see what I’m actually getting in the photo cuz I can’t do that whole just stretch my arm our and take the picture and actually get myself IN the photo.)

Here are two of my most favorite photos we’ve taken with the QX10

The QX10 comes ready to go out of the box.  You’ll just need the app and and you’ll be able to start snapping photos.  You will need a memory card for videos and I recommend it for a faster reaction on photos as well.  It’s rechargeable battery connects with a standard micro charger, I even charge mine in the car.  I thought it charged pretty quickly and the battery lasts a decent amount of time.  I personally do recommend getting a case with it, as I don’t have one and wish I had one so I could carry it in my purse all the time without worrying about it. And I will note that it’s not the best in lower light.  But overall I love it enough that the QX100 is on my wish list!

What do YOU think of the Sony QX10?
